Serving others is at the root of our history, and that tradition continues today. Delta Gamma women understand that giving back is essential to our chapter and to each member’s journey in life.
DG Stands for Do Good
Our founders chose the Greek letters Delta and Gamma to represent their goal to always “Do Good”. This remains Delta Gamma’s motto today and the purpose of our organization.
Aiding the Blind was adopted as DG’s official philanthropy in 1936 when a member who was blind, Ruth Billow, Eta-Akron, petitioned to adopt it as the Fraternity’s Service Project. In 1951, Delta Gamma was the first sorority in the United States to independently establish its own philanthropic foundation. Formed as a complement to the Fraternity, Delta Gamma Foundation is a vehicle for members to promote the educational interests and social responsibility at the heart of our organization’s Constitution.
As a chapter, Gamma Theta strives to live up to our legacy of Doing Good. DGs have many opportunities to support our philanthropy and other organizations through hands-on service in our community. Our annual fundraiser Anchor Splash, and our Spring Carnival and Egg Hunt, are decades old traditions at UF in support of Service for Sight. You’ll also find Delta Gamma sisters giving back throughout the UF and Gainesville communities in other ways, including support of Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy in the southeastern United States benefiting Children’s Miracle Network and UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital.
